Miliaria is a common skin disease caused by blockage and/or inflammation of
eccrine sweat ducts. It is otherwise called Heat rash/ Sweat rash/ Prickly heat.
It usually occurs in Hot, Humid weather.
Causes:
Miliaria or Heat rash usually results from sweating.
There are some contributing or risk factors for Miliaria which is
- The immature duct in the new-born child
- Hot, Humid Weather
- Intense Physical exercise or Activity
- Fever
- Synthetic clothing against skin
- Bed-ridden patients on waterproof mattress
Miliaria Crystallina – Obstruction of the sweat gland at the surface of the skin.
Clinically, it is 1-2 mm, clear blisters that usually occur on the Head, neck, and
upper trunk.
Miliaria Rubra – Obstruction of the sweat gland at the mid-epidermis. Clinically 2-
4mm of non-follicular papules and papulo-vesicles. There will be a background
erythema. It usually occurs on trunk and skin folds involving the neck, axilla, and
groin and also affects the areas of friction with clothing.
Miliaria Pustulosa is the variant of Miliaria rubra with pustule formation.
Miliaria Profunda – Obstruction of the sweat gland at the middle layer of the skin.
Usually presented as asymptomatic deep papules of 1-2mm diameter papules
occur on the trunk & extremities.
Treatment & Management:
Miliaria usually resolves within 2 to 3 days with proper diet and regimen.
Sleep in a ventilated, cool bedroom
- Try to avoid humid weather
- Avoid excessive clothing and tight clothing
- Avoid excessive soap and irritants
- Wear shirts and blouses made of breathable synthetic fabrics or cotton
- Remove wet clothing
- Cool water compresses and taking a cool bath
- Patients should be educated on symptoms of heat exhaustion.
Miliaria Pustulosa healed through Homeopathy:
15 yrs old male presented with rashes over his face, neck, shoulder, and thighs for
3 days. It is started in the face and gradually spreads to other areas mentioned.
Rashes look like pustules and have itching mostly in the afternoon and night.
The patient also complained of Headache on & off for the last 3 days with
extreme body tiredness.
