This is a story of a King and his Magnanimity & Leadership quality
STORY PLOT: “FOOD SAFETY,EVERYONE’S BUSINESS”
The King DHANARAB ruling his Kingdom in a Prosperous way.All his people are leading a Healthy life.
Speciality of this Kingdom is People have their dinner at Royal Residence,Daily.
Suddenly,There was an Epidemic disease attack all over the his Kingdom.
King immediately formed a War team to handle this Epidemics & the team was lead by
Prince.DINAKTHI,Chief Administrative Officer,
Dr.GAYA,Chief Medical Officer.
Both leaders landed their work on ground, made a report & submitted to the King.
Dr.GAYA’S REPORT:
Epidemics: Food Borne illness
Causation:
Consumption of Contaminated foods & Beverages
Improper food Handling Practices
Main Contaminants are biological hazards: Bacterias,Viruses,Parasites & Other organisms
- Hepatitis A virus
- Salmonella Typhi
- E.Coli
- Shigella.spp
- Non-typhoidal salmonella.

Common Symptoms:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhoea
- Abdominal cramps
- Fever
- Fatigue
- Joint pains.
Symptoms Lasts for 1 to 7 days depends upon the severity of disease{Organisms} & Host Immunity.
Prevention:
- Clean: Washing Hands & Cooking area
- Separate: Don’t Cross-Contaminate {Eg.Dont use the same utensils or platter that held the raw product to serve the cooked product}
- Cook: Cook to proper Temperatures
- Chill: Refrigerate Promptly
- Food spoilage knowledge
- If cook has any skin abrasions in the hand,he has to cover it or use gloves while cooking.
- Ensure Personal Hygiene for the workers in Kitchen & Educate the same to them.
- Keep Pets,Household Chemicals,cleaners away from the food surface.
- Because Bacterias are everywhere,Cleanliness is the main process to prevent Food-borne disease.
After reading this Report,King Dhanarab made a policy of Quality control to inspect & monitor Food Safety.
Meanwhilst,Dr.Gaya and her team had started treatment along with preventive measures & people started recovering
King inquired about Prince Dinakthi’s report.
Prince informed that he had a brief discussion with Dr.Gaya and came to know about the different types of Hazards causing Food-borne illness.Based on that he had inspected the areas of resources with the specific professionals & educate them the importance of Food Safety.

Hazards may be introduced in to the food supply anytime during
- Harvesting
- Formulation & Processing
- Packaging & Labelling
- Transportation
- Storage
- Preparation
- Serving.
I came to know that apart from Biological hazards, Physical & Chemical Hazards also playing role in Food-borne illness.
Physical Hazards: Addition of Foreign objects to food{Broken piece,Hair,Nails,Jewellery,Stabler pin,Plastics etc}
Chemical Hazards: Cleaning Products & sanitizers,Insecticides,Pesticides residues on raw food{fruits},Rodenticides,Food colourants,Preservatives,Equipments colours etc.
So I gave importance to
- Maintaining Hygiene in every mentioned areas
- Insisted the proper handing of Cleaning reagents,Insecticides,Pesticides in related areas.
- Implementing FIFO{First in First out}method for Food resources in associated areas.
- Created policy for ensuring workers Health issues.
King was fulfilled by proactiveness of his team.
