Leadership is a mindset, a quality needed for everyone. It’s not about title. When you are in managerial position, leadership quality makes you to thrive and has a huge positive impact on yourself and your Organization. There are many set of qualities and skills needed for being a leader. In which, getting out from Self-Deception and identifying deceptive personalities are one of the important things to be aware for being a leader.
What is Deception?
Deception is nothing but an act of causing someone to accept the true which is not basically a truth. Deceptive personalities are someone who hides the truth or promotes an idea which is not true.
How do you identify these Deceptive people?
- They always talk about other people’s flaws and weakness.
- They always justify themselves even when the justification is not needed.
- Most of the time, they used to answer questions with question.
- When they convey the message, usually there will be a lack of details in that message.
- They usually boasting themselves about their work but many times when you explore, you will find out that that’s not their work at all.
- They never take any Accountability & Responsibility
Why it is important to identify these deceptive personalities?
Identifying these deceptive personalities is crucial for being a leader and it helps you
- To avoid Toxic culture Environment
- To attain Mental & Emotional wellbeing for everyone in an organization
- To increase the productivity of employees
- To gain trust from employees
As a leader, you should identify and educate these personalities to change for better. If they do not change, just dodge them.
Leadership & Self-deception:
We humans are the masters of Self-deception. Have you ever wonder that you believe things that are false or you decline to believe things that are true?
Self-deception is nothing but you see the world the way you wish rather than the way it is!! When you have self-deception, you use your needs, opinions, desires, hopes, theories, ideologies, and expectations etc to construct the way you see the world.

- You won’t let others to share their opinion…
- You won’t let others to do what they wish to do…
- You won’t admit when you are wrong…
- You take ownership for everything and let others to follow your order.
When you start deceiving, the leader within you becomes dead!!
What to do?
1.Self-awareness is crucial; practicing embodied self-awareness helps you to know your shadow and understand your projections.
2. Don’t allow pride to become arrogance. Always your pride goes with humility.
3.Admit when you are wrong, learn to be flexible.
