In this digital life, Concentration in doing a small thing is a difficult task to many of us. People who are doing work, students who are learning whoever may be, everyone feels difficult to be concentrated. At the same time, everyone wish to be focused on the things what they are doing. For which, Concentration is an essential one and it is the important aspect of Emotional intelligence. Poor concentration accompany memory loss and Lack of concentration may leads to stress which further causes Mental & Emotional disturbances and eventually ends in affecting the happiness. Here are the few ways to improve your Concentration. Stay focused on how to improve concentration!!
What is Concentration?
Concentration is exclusive attention to one object or concentration refers to the mental effort, you directs toward whatever you are learning or working at the moment. Good concentration power is essential to attract abundance and success.

- Poor sleep & poor diet
- Stress
- Mental & Emotional distress
- Brain injuries & Neurological conditions
- Cognitive dysfunction or impairment
- ADHD – Attention deficit Hyperactivity disorder
How to improve Concentration:
Our parents and teachers used to insists us “Do concentrate and study”. But no one showed how to concentrate. {I am not aware about now} Concentration needs mental effort to follow and apply. Here are the some ways to improve concentration. I just categorize in to 3 levels for easily concentrating the article to improve concentration!!
Focus your Physical level to improve concentration:
Sleep:
Having a peaceful sleep is crucial to run a day with concentration. Focus 6 to 8 hours sound sleep. Avoid screen time from gadgets and TV before going to bed.
Diet:
Healthy diet always plays a vital role in every aspects of life. Diet rich in green leafy vegetables, spinach, nuts and fruits helps to improve your concentration. Avoid foods which affect your cognitive function like sugary products and processed foods.
Exercise:
Exercises do wonders in improving your concentration. Aerobic exercises are recommended more. But for many people, doing exercise itself is the biggest task. For them, start small small steps like going for a walk 15 minutes per day, be physically active wherever possible.
Focus your Mental & Emotional level to improve your concentration:
As I already mentioned earlier, Stress & Mental, Emotional distress is one of the main factors affecting your concentration.
- Self- awareness is crucial
- Acknowledge your emotions and address it through Emotional regulation strategies.
- Identify your triggering factors which disturb your concentration like pleasure of watching social media in order to avoid the pain of doing your work or food habits or sleeping pattern etc etc and start working on it.
- Identify the source of stress i.e Environmental, physiological, Inter-personal or Intra-personal and take steps to resolve
- Improve your Emotional intelligence
- Practice Mindfulness and Meditation
Focus on Habits to improve Concentration:
Building Habits is the healthier way to improve your concentration power. Because habits are wired to brain and brain reflects through behavior.
Avoid Distractions:
Diverting the attention from the focus and thus by blocking or diminishing desired information or functions.
When you are not in that moment like,
When you are working in the office, you started thinking about the household needs or else when you are at home and spending time with your loved ones, you have started thinking about the mails or meetings in the office
Always thinking either about the past or about the future without living in the moment
Tips :Just be in the moment. Start practicing Mindfulness. Mindfulness is a type of meditation in which you focus on being intensely aware of what you are sensing and feeling in the moment without interpretation or judgment
Alignment of body and Mind:
Mind thinks but the body not cooperates or else body is doing some work but mind is not showing any attention or interest.
If you are having work, wants to awake by 4am, you wake up but your mind stills wants to sleep more, sleepy. Or else you still on bed, but your mind starts thinking or worrying about your task. Body and mind not works together
Tips: Focus your breath for few seconds. Just count inhalation and Exhalation in seconds and synchronize it by doing similar seconds. Like Inhale for 5 seconds and exhale it for 5 seconds by focusing your breath.
Avoid Multi tasking:
Multitasking is the one important thing which destroys you as a whole. It may feel like that you are finishing your work fast but it results in distracted mind and improper alignment of body and mind. So avoid multi-tasking in order to improve concentration.
Build and increase your will power:
Will power is a powerful word that we can inspire in a person. Will power is nothing but control of your own impulses and actions. A good will power tends to improve concentration in you. Here are the some tips to increase your will power.
Setting Goals and visualize it:
Setting small goals and tasks and visualize the same helps you to re-shape your thoughts in to reality. Thoughts generate feelings, feelings leads to action and behavior which eventually leads to results.

Being concentrated is not a simple task to accomplish. It takes huge efforts to be concentrated. Will power, Self-discipline and Habits plays a major role to improve your concentration. If you want success, If you need abundance, If you love peace, then work on improving your concentration power.
