Allostasis overload is the reason for your illness?

Allostasis overload is the reason for your illness. How and what to do?

  1. Are you stressed out?
  2. Chronically ill?
  3. Weaker Personality?

If yes,

You are in a state of Allostatic overload.

Can your stress be a reason for your chronic diseases and chronic pain? How

Before doing the recovery procedures, first, you have to understand what is allostasis and allostatic overload.

What is Allostasis?

Before that, you have to know about Homoeostasis. So instead of definitions, I will start with examples to understand them easily. It is applied to every physiological function and changes in our body.

When you sleep, your body has certain parameters, when it changes like, you walk or work, it adapts to that change. Scientifically, it is called “Homoeostasis”.

But when you face change in the form of stress like exercise, running or any sudden emotional fright, your body produces certain chemicals to maintain the equilibrium. This adaptive process that maintains Homoeostasis is called “Allostasis”.

So Allostasis is stability through change.

Reason for your chronic illness:

If the stress is constant, either physical or mental, you will go into allostasis overload which is not stable and that is the main reason behind your chronic illness. You stressed out here!!

Reason for weaker personality:

Change is constant both internal & and external. Just perceive this concept,

When there is change, the attempt to adapt to the change should create stability {Allostasis} which is why you become stronger and grow from change.

But when you are adapting without any stability to the change {Allostasis overload}, there is a greater chance of a weaker personality, disease, and demise.

So the aim of an allostatic attitude is not to avoid change, not to fight change, neither control it but rather skillfully engage with it.

The problem here is Allostatic overload, not Allostasis

Impact of Allostatic Overload?

Allostatic overload has a greater impact on our overall health.

In general, I mentioned earlier that the reason for chronic illness and weaker personality is allostatic overload, in specific, allostatic overload is associated with

  • Increased risk of cardiovascular diseases, systemic hypertension
  • Linked to an increased risk of diabetes
  • Cancer, specifically breast cancer
  • Mental health disturbances – higher allostatic overload is associated with an increased risk of anxiety, depression, and mood disorders.

“Changes in allostatic load might reflect adaptive adjustments that maximize short-term survival by enhancing stress reactivity, but at a cost to later health”- American Journal of Human Biology Study

How to recover from Allostasis overload?
How to recover from Allostasis overload?

How to use allostasis healthily without going to allostatic overload?

The best way is “Euthymia”

Euthymia means using allostasis optimally and maintaining a healthy balance that promotes the positive aspect of brain and body health through health-promoting behaviors. These behaviors include,

  • Balanced diet,
  • Regular exercise,
  • Adequate and good quality sleep
  • Practice relaxation techniques include yoga in your day-to-day life
  • Positive physical environment – safe and green space
  • Positive social interactions that happen through volunteerism
  • Healthy habits like book reading, Mindfulness and meditation.

How to use allostasis to become a stronger personality?

Self-awareness, Self-regulation & Self-discovery.

You should be tough and determined in your core values but at the same time you should be flexible enough to respond quickly to the altered circumstances, that is bend without breaking!!
