World Mental Health Day Awareness
“People with severe mental health conditions die prematurely – as much as two decades early – due to preventable physical conditions.
Depression is one of the leading causes of disability.
Suicide is the fourth leading cause of death among 15-29-year-olds.”
–WHO statement.
Why Mental health is critical?
Each part of our body is controlled by our brain, You may know that a clot or hemorrhage in the brain {Stroke} causes slurred speech, inability to move the hands etc, etc. Likewise, our thinking, emotions, and instincts have separate areas in the brain. I try to tell it in a simple manner,
The frontal lobe, the front side of the brain deals with thinking, reasoning, logic, decision-making, and planning.
Limbic system- The Amygdala, a part of the brain deals with Emotions and memories.
When you see a threat{mild, moderate, severe}, you get stressed {amygdala performance}, it makes you release stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline in the body which has some impacts on your body.
It is developed for a protective response like what you do when you see a lion – Fight or Flight response
Lion is a threat here
But nowadays, these “Threats” are psychological!! Fear of losing the job, fear of disease, fear of etc… so what will happen?
- Stress is persistent!!
- Your Emotional health is muddled up
- Your Physical Health is deranged.
So,Understand your mind & body,
Focus on your Mental Health, like your physical health.
